August 28th

Yesterday was a kindergarten shopping day. I thought about having her show off some of her new stuff for pictures but thought it would be more fun to share it all later this week when she's actually off to school. But the day did start with her getting her hair cut. We got it cut a tad shorter this time & it is absolutely adorable! We also picked out her dress for Day 1 which Adam & I both fell in love with. I can't wait to be able to show all of you on Thursday.

Today Mya went to Taryn's birthday party. As a surprise Taryn's parents had The Game Truck come to her house. Don't know what The Game Truck is? I had never heard of it either!!

That trailer is actually a mobile game room! My pictures aren't the best but basically it has very fancy, soft leather couches lined up on one side with 4 tvs on the other. Mya was a little intimidated by it at first but once she sat down & started playing one of the games she loved it just as much as the rest of the kids.

Well, today was Meet the Teacher but, unfortunately, it was rather disappointing. Being new to this thing I'm not 100% sure but I think typically you would line up to meet your teacher who would speak to you briefly & then you would be set free to explore the classroom & the school. This year, however, our session was held in the middle school because the elementary school is still under construction. So, basically that means we spoke ever so briefly with the teacher & were done. I even think the teachers were uncomfortable with the situation because unless we had questions or topics to broach with her she didn't really have a lot to say to us. We didn't have either so we stood in line longer than we talked to her. Mya's assessment on Tuesday will be with her teacher in her classroom so the plan now is for her to see it all then. In my opinion they should have just cancelled the thing today. But I guess that's why I'm not in charge.

This past weekend we went on Mya's very 1st camping trip. She has been to many parks & campgrounds with family & friends in the past but this was the 1st time that she slept over night in a tent. We went with The Grimms who had a RV site next to our tent.

Our sites were on the outside of a circle. In the middle was a small playground where the kids spent a lot of the weekend playing.

This is also where Mya split her head open. Her only negative to the whole trip. Her & Evan had put huge sticks (small logs really) up against the side of the jungle gym. One of them got knocked over & hit her in the back of the head. We thought she might need a stitch or 2 at first because the swelling made the split look horrible. Ice brought the knot way down though & she was just left with a nasty but small little wound.

Besides the pool & the golf cart that we rented to get around the kids also liked when we went down to the creek. We saw huge spiders & a ton of frogs.

The most unique part of the trip was definitely Bessie. That's what we named the friendly cow who came to visit us from her farm behind our sites. She visted us several times each day. Some times we fed her a little bread...other times she just hung out with us for a while & then went on about her business for a while. One morning she was waiting for us right outside the door of our tent.

Saturday night Misty & I took the kids down to the shelter house for a 50's dance. We did the chicken dance, the hokey pokey, the twist...all kinds of dances. It was SO much fun!!

It was also the 1st camping trip for Adam. He didn't hate it as much as he though although I wouldn't say it was high on his 'fun' list.

Mya on the other hand loved every minute of it & asked almost right away when we were going to go again. I am counting the days. :)

August 23rd

The truth of the matter is I have just been horrible about keeping this page up to date at all this whole year but I wasn't fond of the blog at all so I'm back here...home. :)

MYA IS STARTING KINDERGARTEN!!!! Her 1st day of school is September 1st but there are all kinds of things to do beforehand. So, there is so much happening and coming up to share with all of you. I am very excited!

Friday we got a letter in the mail letting us know what class Mya would be in. She is going to be in Mrs. Blade's AM class. We are really happy about the AM part. That means she will go to class when she is still fresh each day. Also, she will be done with school at 12:40 each day so if I want to, I can pick her up early for 1 more year. A bonus for both of us.

After school each day Mya will still be going to Goddard for enrichment lessons there. Today was her 1st day in her new classroom there. She is now an Owl. Her favorite part so far....no more naps!! She has spent time in the Owl's room in the past for different things & knows that it's for the 'big kids' so today she was VERY excited to have her very own cubby in there.

Tonight we had the curriculum meeting (Pickerington calls it Back To School Meeting). It was for parents only so Mya was not with us but Adam & I got to meet her teacher for the 1st time. I really liked our 1st impression of her. She's an older woman who has been teaching in Pickerington for over 20 years. Her own children & now some of her grandchildren have gone to Pickerington schools & she says she still absolutely loves the area. There are so many exciting things planned for this year. It would take me forever to explain it all here but....Mya is going to absolute love all of it!!

It's getting late tonight but tomorrow I will try to add pictures from Mya's 1st camping trip that we went on this past weekend!
